MLO 2: Culture
Outcomes:
2.1. Students develop a comprehensive understanding, appreciation and knowledge of Japanese culture: perspectives (ideas, beliefs, attitudes, values, philosophies), practices (patterns of social interactions) and products (both tangible and intangible, for example, art, history, literature, music).
2.2. Students develop analytical and critical thinking in areas, such as how Japan’s cultural background influences modern Japanese life, how to compare their own culture with the Japanese culture, or how Japanese culture relates to other world cultures in an age of global inter-relatedness.
Reflective Narrative:
2.1. I reconsidered Japanese culture by taking Japanese major classes at CSUMB. For example, the Service Learning class gave me an opportunity to think of my own culture deeply. When I made lesson plans, I realized that I did not know Japanese culture very well and felt embarrassed. After that, I tried to pay attention not only to what Japanese culture is, but also to the meaning of it. For more details, please visit my JAPN303 SL page.
2.2. Taking 'Japan in Asia' class was very beneficial for me to think of the relationship between Japan and other Asian countries. I have learned how Japan connects with them through the economy and culture. What I was surprised with was that Japanese pop culture such as Manga, anime, and music is a key element to developing their relationship. For more details, please visit my JAPN407 page.
